Orange Chocolate Cake

Looking at this cake you might think this is a chocolate cake. No,this is not a fully chocolate cake. Can you see there is some marble effect on the dark cake? Just because I've overbaked the cake for slightly more than 5 minutes, the cake got almost burnt and this is the result. Luckily the cake is still soft and tastes good with the sweet aroma and citrus flavour. I'm also not very disappointed because the chocolate swirl inside the cake looks very pretty. I definitely will bake this cake again with the correct timing next time.

Here is the recipe adapted from i weekly magazine
Ingredients
(A)
200g Butter
180g Caster sugar
3 large Eggs
1 tbsp Orange rind
4 tbsp Orange juice (fresh)
1 tsp Vanilla extract

(B) ~ sift together
250g Plain flour
1 tsp Baking powder
1 tsp Baking soda
1/8 tsp Salt

(C)
200g Sour cream or plain natural yoghurt
30g Semi-sweet chocolate, chop to pieces and melt in microwave or double boiler

Method:
  • Preheat oven at 175C, Grease a 9" bundt pan, and dust flour or spray non-stick spray in pan.
  • (Ingredient A) Beat butter for a while and add in sugar, continue to beat butter until creamy.
  • Add eggs one at a time and mix well. Add orange rind, orange juice and vanilla extract, beat at low speed till well combined.
  • Split ingredient (B) into 4 portions and sour cream into 3 portions. Pour in one portion of flour and sour cream alternately, beat well after each addition.
  • Take half of the mixture and gently mix with melted chocolate (do not over mix).
  • Scoop plain and chocolate batter alternately into pan, till all the batters are used up and gently shake the pan a little.
  • Bake for 50-60 minutes or skewer comes out clean.
  • Remove cake from oven and set to cool for 20 minutes then unmould, leave to cool completely.

Enjoy!

  2. The swirl is so so so lovely. Can you show us how you create the swirl?

With 200g of sour cream/yogurt added, I am sure this cake must be very light and moist. I would like to give this recipe a try but too bad the only bundt pan I have is 10", so I either bake a bigger cake (but I am not sure the conversion) or a shorter bundt cake. :P

  13. Thanks Elin. Have a try and remember to check the timing.

Angel, this is very easy. After adding the plain and choc batter alternately just shake the pan a little to get the swirl. Can use 10" pan but the cake will be slightly smaller.

Jobless Girl, Please feedback to me after trying it. :)

    J.O. ~ 谢谢!你做的也是极品 :)

  42. @Siew-Hwee
Siew-Hwee, I used fresh orange juice since I'm using the orange rind. You can also add the sour cream up to 250g.
