Roasted Chicken wings and Potatoes

Warning alert: Copyright © Anncoo Journal ~ Please do not copy my pictures and pages as yours.

Last week I got a new toy in my kitchen ~ A Philips Airfryer. A very welcome surprise birthday present from my family♥♥♥ I can't wait to open up the box and have a good look at this new toy after we had an enjoyable dinner at a Chinese restaurant. I like the sleek black design and fits in well in my kitchen.
According to the catalogue, one of the main features of this Airfryer is that it can cook some of our all-time favourite fried food such French fries, chicken wings and fish cakes. With up to 80% less fat in the food prepared by Airfryer, it provides a new and healthy alternative to traditional deep frying as you don't have to fill it with oil. Sounds good!

For my first testing on the Airfryer, I marinated the chicken wings and potatoes with the spices that my sweet friend Mary of Keep Learning Keep Smiling sent to me all the way from UK few months ago.  Thank you Mary for the spices. I love it! They are very fragrant and easy to use.

Roasted Chicken Wings and Potatoes

      Ingredients:
8 pcs Large chicken wings or use mid joint
      1 packet Perfect shake steak
      1 1/2 tsp Turemeric powder
1 Onion - chopped to small pieces
      1/2 tsp Sugar
      1/2 tbsp Light soy sauce
1 tbsp Cooking wine (rice wine or hua tiao qiu)
      1 tbsp Canola oil

  • Mix all the ingredients together with the chicken wings and leave to marinate for 2 hours in the refrigerator.

3-4 Large potatoes, well scrubbed, cut into long lengthwise
     1/2 tsp Turimeric powder
     1 packet SCHWARTZ Spice
     1 tbsp Canola oil
  • Preheat the Airfryer to 180C for 5 minutes.
  • Wash and scrub the potatoes, peel off the skin and cut them into lengthwise. Soak in mild salt water for 10 minutes. Rinse the cut potatoes under running water, drain them thoroughly and pat dry with kitchen towel.

  • Mix all the potatoes ingredients together and transfer it into the fryer basket and slide the basket into the Airfryer.

  • Set the timer to 20 minutes and fry the potatoes until they are golden brown. Toss the potatoes after 10 minutes and continue to fry for another 10 minutes.

  • Set the Airfryer to 200C.
  • Drain excess marinade from the chicken wings.
  • Place chicken wings in the fryer basket and slide the basket into the Airfryer. Set timer to 12 minutes.

  • Roast the chicken wings until brown. Turn sides of the chicken wing. Then lower the temperature to 150C and roast the chicken wings with some cherry tomatoes for another 10 minutes until done.

Verdict: The chicken wings are very fragrant and tender and the potatoes also very crispy with only 1 tablespoon of oil used.
The Airfryer is very convenient to use, no mess of oil splatters and less cleaning. Very suitable for small family.

I'm so honoured to be given the Liebster Blog Award from Yummy Bakes!
Thank you!

  13. I bought this too, wanted the black one but it was out of stock, so I bought the white one. I've cooked quite a fair bit of stuff in it, meat pattie, fried fish, wonton, fries and chicken wings.

For the wings, I cut them into sections and cook them separately, ie drumlets, midpoints and wing tip. They were cooked @ 200C for 8 mins, reduce temp to 160C for another 5 mins. How many wings did you fit into the basket? Im going to stack them up next time.

    1. Blessed Homemaker,

This is my first time trying it so I put in all the 8 wings and I turned them over half way through. You can use a skewer to test whether the meat are cooked or not. If not cook for another 2-3 minutes.

  20. I bought this last xmas and it is very cheap $299 with free gift new moon new year set.

It is really good for frying where you do not want an oily kitchen. I love using it.

  21. This is great feedback! I saw this fryer being promoted the other day and being one who doesn't do deep-frying much (too much oil wastage), I was interested but a little sceptical. Just 1 tbs? This sounds really good. Now I'm actually thinking about getting one. Maybe I'll wait to see more posts from you before I do :D

  23. Me too bought this so called toy. But I personally really regret as it is not value for money. The food is not as tasty as traditionally oil frying one. Now already kept in store room. Sorry I am not trying to make anyone ill-feeling.

    1. Hi Grace,

Is all right. This is very individual, either you love it or hate it.

    2. Hi Grace - I bought one and absolutely love it. We use it pretty much daily. If you are willing to experiment you will find plenty of uses for it. For instance only, we even use it to warm up chiffon cakes or buns that we may have bought - for that 'freshly baked' taste / feeling. While you could probably do that with some other forms of oven, the speed at which the Airfryer does this is amazing. 3 minutes from cold max; 4 minutes and the chiffon cake gets burnt!

    3. Sorry Ann for using here to reply Alan. Hope you don't mind. Maybe my purpose of buying this is different from you. I bought this specially for frying as I really hate those dirty & oily environment after every deep frying. I used it for frying the small popiah (with shrimp or meat fross filling), the result is really dissapointed, not that crispy & colour not attractive), similar for friying yong tau foo as I really love this dish.It is not only wasting my effort, but also spoilt my raw material as well.Maybe thro' you people, I can gain some tips of using it.
