I'm sure all bakers are very busy preparing and baking for the upcoming Chinese New Year which falls on the 10th February this year. Please excuse me for not dropping by your blogs recently as I'm also very busy in the kitchen. Here is another cookies recipe ~ Green Pea Cookies that I adapted from Cheah of No-Frills Recipes. Cheah made these melt in the mouth cookies last year that I didn't manage to them. So this year I quickly bought a packet of green pea powder to make this crumbly soft cookie. Really love the colour of this cookie and yum ... can't stop popping this not too sweet and addictive little cookie in my mouth. Love it to bits!
Green Pea Cookies
- Ingredients:
160g Icing sugar
1/2 tsp Salt
340g Self-raising flour
200ml Vegetable oil (I used peanut oil)
1 egg yolk + 1/2 tsp water for glazing
Method:
- Sift flour with the salt and sift in the icing sugar. Add in the pea powder and mix all the ingredients thoroughly. Add oil sparingly and slowly mix till the dough does not stick to the hands.
- Let dough rest for 15 minutes, covered.
- Roll dough into small balls (about 10-12g each) and arrange them on a parchment lined baking tray. Apply egg glaze.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees C for 15 minutes.
- Allow cookies to cool on tray for about 10 minutes before removing them onto a wire rack to cool completely before storing into an airtight container.

Ann, I love green peas cookies very much! But I will have to reserve this for next CNY hah! hah!

ReplyDeleteHi Cheah, thank you very much for sharing this yummy recipe :)
DeleteHi Ann
ReplyDeleteSo glad for your timely post as I just bought a pack of the green pea powder and was looking around for a recipe. My packet is 450g so have to do some maths, haha! Sabrina
Hi Sabrina,
DeleteI didn't know can get a smaller packet. Mine was 1kg.
Hi Ann! I have never tried green pea cookies before and find it refreshing. Can we use the real peas instead of the powder form?
ReplyDeleteAlvin, I think a lot of work using real peas. You've to fry the peas and grind to fine.
Delete说真的,我和老公都没有吃过绿豆饼呢,嘻嘻。。
ReplyDelete我也是第一次做,还不错。明年可以试试看。
Deleteyes yes, i know this kind of cookie you will not stop at one, hehehe..

oh wow i didn't know it was so easy to make these green pea cookies as I always had the impression they were like kuih bangkit and you have to cook the flour first, etc. the method reminds me of the peanut cookie - so i'm definitely KIVing this for this weekend! where can i get green pea powder easily btw?
ReplyDeleteJanine, I bought the green pea powder from Sunlik, you can also check with Kitchen Capers.
Deletemay i know whether green pea powder and green pea flour is similar? i was in a rush and when i reached hme i found that i got grean pea flour instead of powder.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure where you got this green pea flour. You've to call the shop owner and check it out. I bought it from Sunlik and the green pea powder is green in colour.

ReplyDeleteHi Ann, I love green pea cookies. But have yet to try my hands on it because those I had eaten before were soft and crumbly. Yours look lovely and very tempting. Thanks for sharing. Gong Xi Fa Cai !
ReplyDeleteThese look very pretty and tasty. I wonder if they are the similar to those that come in a tin which I have not eaten in a long, long time. Of course, yous look way better. I am also curious about the green pea powder. First time I am hearing about it.
ReplyDeleteHI Ann.
ReplyDeleteI saw this green pea cookies around a lot last year so i decide to give it a try this year.
