Tofu is one of my favourite food items and I like anything that cooked with tofu. Two months back when I saw this Baked Tofu Cheesecake from a Chinese magazine, I told myself I have to try this recipe when I'm free. I've tweaked the recipe a little and the cheesecake turned out light and moist that almost melts in your mouth. If you're a fan of Tofu and Cheesecake, here is the simple combination recipe that you don't have to worry about unwanted calories.
250g Silken tofu (tube form)
250g Cream cheese
5 Egg yolks
120ml Soya milk (unsweetened)
3 tbsp Lemon juice
1 tsp Vanilla extract
70g Plain flour (sifted)
(B)
5 Egg whites
130g Caster sugar
- Preheat oven to 170C. Line a 9" cake tin and wrap with heavy duty aluminium foil to prevent any water from sipping into the cheesecake during baking.
- In a food processor, blend all (A) ingredients until smooth. Put mixture in a large bowl.
- In a separate mixing bowl, beat egg white and caster sugar until semi-firm peaks form to make soft meringue.
- Use a whisk to mix 1/3 soft meringue with mixture.
- Gently fold in the rest with spatula.
- Pour mixture into cake tin and steam bake for about 50 mins at the lower rack of the oven.
- Move the cheesecake to upper rack of the oven and switch temperature to grill for about 30 seconds to one minute to get a nice golden colour on top of the cake.
- Leave cheesecake to cool in room temperature, remove and best to chill before serve.
Enjoy!

wow wow wow!!! even though i am not big fans of cheese but still get tempted by yours. I will have a go on this definitely.
ReplyDeleteI love tofu too and I am sure I will like this cheesecake but I wonder if my husband will eat it. He can't stand tofu. Maybe I will make this without telling him there is tofu in it. Let see his reactions.

@ICook4Fun
ReplyDeleteGert, If your hubby don't likes tofu, use fresh milk instead of soya milk.
U bake till perfection, can i know what type of toufu you use?
ReplyDeleteAngeline
It looks like those light fluffy Japanese cheesecake :)

ReplyDeleteMay I know is the tofu taste prominent?
Can you taste the tofu in this cake? Is the taste significant?
ReplyDeleteWe are not very fond of the tofu. Dont mind to eat but not die-hard-fans. but would love to try this out if the tofu taste is not that significant in the cake. ;)
I've seen a few cheesecake recipes using tofu but have yet to try! Looks so good, reminds me of Japanese cheesecake.
ReplyDeleteTofu cheesecake looks stunning..
ReplyDelete@Angel @ Cook.Bake.Love
ReplyDeleteAngel, Will get the tofu taste because of the soya milk added.
@Tan Shu-Yin
ReplyDeleteHi Shu-yin, Yes there is a bit of tofu taste even if you change to use fresh milk instead of soya milk.
Lena, Tks! I'd not say this is very creamy but it is really soft and light.
ReplyDeleteChris, have a try.
Wendy, 你不是第一个,不过还是吃得到,因为分量蛮大的哦!
Pavithra, Your tofu desserts look super nice. I already bookmarked and want to try it out soon :)

You're right Murasaki.

Thanks Joyce!
Happy Flour, Hope you'll love this after trying it.
the cheesecake looks so perfect....totally irresistable..
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen a more beautiful cheesecake in my life! It helps that I like tofu : ) Now if I could just find a good substitute for the cream cheese that isn't just "fake" cream cheese I could make this for my non-dairy eating husband!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of Tofu, but I like the texture of this cake, so moist and soft! Bravo my friend, it sounds healthy and delicious!
ReplyDeleteHugs for you!
Cheers
OMG!! it looks heaven Ancoo ! You have many great recipe I adore and bookmarked.. I don't when will I try one of it.. this is ssssooooo perfect cheese cake! ^,^
ReplyDeleteI begin to shutter every time I see tofu in a recipe. I fear I have made a couple desserts (one a cheesecake) with tofu that looked absolutely fabulous but tasted...well not like anything I'd eat! Heeheehhe!!!
ReplyDeleteI have since voided any tofu recipes. Yours does look quite tasty!
God bless ya and have a wonderful weekend sweetie!!! :o)
Cheesecake is perhaps one of the few desserts that I eat as I don't have a sweet tooth. And this version is healthier too!
ReplyDeleteNice!!! It looks really, REALLY goood. I've heard about it but you know me I don't bake. But it's something I'd love to try for sure. I saw another cake post below. If I ever make a cake, it would be once a year thing. LOL. Have a great weekend Ann! :-)

ReplyDeleteI MUST try this recipe bcoz I'm a great fan of tofu and cheese! Your tofu cheesecake looks so soft and moist. The color on top of the cake is really beautiful! ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
Your cheesecake has the perfect texture! I tried tofu cheesecake once in a Japanese restaurant and put me off it but yours look so good. I may want to give it another go.
ReplyDeleteHi Anncoo, how long should I bake this cake if using a 8x4 inch round pan? Must this cake be cooled inverted just like chiffon cake? TIA
ReplyDeleteMel
it looks AMAZING! SO soft and smooth..and little calories? oh i am so intrigued!!!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteMel, This cheesecake is quite tall and I think you can use a 8 inches square tin but not round. Never invert cheesecake as its has more water content than chiffon cake.
Thank you everyone for your lovely comment and hopefully you can try this yummy cheesecake at home :)
ReplyDeleteRachel, hope you can find something suitable for your hubby.
Thanks Mamatkamal.
Thank you Nezzy. No problem, as long as you're here, I'm happy!
ChopinandMysacepan, No worries, all my cheesecake recipes are not overly sweet.
Nami,Thank you very much for your compliment. Have a try on this recipe as it is very easy to make.
Thanks Gloria, Rebecca :))
Krithi, Just remember you have to steam bake this cake.
Shan, 好呀!一定等你。。嘻嘻。。
Lyn, sure must try huh! Yummy Bakes tried already. :D
Ellie, Thanks!
Daphne, right very healthy and yummy :)
Such nice and healthy alternative to add tofu! I bet it's very creamy and smooth! Will try this on my sister since she's super health conscious and loves cheesecake! Thanks Ann.
ReplyDelete@Ann@Anncoo Journal
ReplyDeleteAnn, tried baking this cake using 8" round pan (cos I don't have either 9" round or 8" sq pan) my cheesecake doesn't look nice like yours. It has crack surface and sank upon cooling T_T although ugly it's still yummy good. Any idea why it sank? TIA
Mel
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteMel, Because you're using a smaller tin to make the cake higher than the usual one. Can you see the height of my cheesecake is almost the same level as the cake tin after baked? (referring the last pic in the oven)and you might need to bake for another 5 mins for a taller cake.
Most baked cheesecakes got cracks on the cake same as this one here.
@Ann@Anncoo Journal
ReplyDeleteThks Ann, will take note of this point. =)
