Black Forest Cake is an old fashioned classic cake that is originated from Germany and it is one of my most favourite cakes. I’ve made this lovely cake many times especially for family or friends’ birthday. It is a perfect combination with a layer of pitted dark sweet cherries and another layer of chocolate mousse in between the chocolate sponge cake. Brush on some sugar syrup with Kirsch liqueur and that will definitely make this cake very fragrant and moist. I’ll not type out the recipe today as I’ve already posted the recipe here.
According to Wiki, the cake is named not directly after the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) mountain range in southwestern Germany but rather from the specialty liquor of that region known as Schwarzwalder Kirschwasser, a colourless fruit brandy traditionally made from distilled tart cherries. This is the ingredient with its distinctive cherry pit flavour and alcoholic content that gives the cake its flavour. Kirschwasser is often simply called Kirsch in both German and English-speaking countries.
