Wordless Wednesday ~ Roselle 洛神花
Remember I posted 2 recipes using Roselle 洛神花）to make cupcake and jelly? Just to try my luck I stuffed the roselle seeds in the pot. It is not difficult to grow at all. I didn’t add any fertilizer but let it grow in full sunlight, watering them regularly and after 6 months, my Roselle plant is taller than me and blooming to pretty pink flowers with striking red calyxes. Roselle flower open as light yellow in colour and later change to gorgeous pink before they wither off by mid afternoon. Despite its short life span, about a year or so, it is very productive. Regular harvesting will lead to a better yield. When fruits remain uncollected and are left to mature, the plant will eventually die faster.
Can’t wait to share with you this beautiful Roselle plant taken in my garden.
This is my favourite hibiscus, simply love the beautiful orange pink colour. Always make my day!

Have not shared my Cookie’s photos here for a long time. She is 14+ now. Still going strong and eating well. Unfortunately she’s lost hearing with age and back legs problem due to osteporosis arthristis and was treated with pain medication. She still walking but won’t be for long …..
She is still a happy dog!

Oh Ann, what beautiful pictures. I am so interested in the Roselle plant. It is so pretty. I would love to try and grow it too. What climate does it grow in? I think it too is in the Hibiscus family. I will have to find it somewhere, lol…
I'm sorry I don;t know the name of that plant. I don;t think it is a Bleeding heart though because a bleeding heart has distinct heart shaped flowers. Your Cookie is adorable and Happy too!

Hi Louise, I think roselle is a tropical plant as I put them under full sun but it can be grown in New Zealand and Australia too.
This is the first time I heard of Bleeding heart. Wonder can this plant be eaten?

I have seen rosselle once while I lived in Malaysia and even tried to make juice with it, but never tried making jam though.

I think that plant is called "Bleeding hearts" -its white with the red dot in the center. It is a creeper. Used to have it but now gone – can seldom find it nowadays. Love your doggie!

Oh you also planted Roselle, I just planted two months ago, good seeds sent from Yen (Eat your heart out). My plants already has flowers and fruits, now waiting them to mature, can't wait to try them out..
