Handmade Snowskin Piggy 制作冰皮小猪猪
Monncake Festival or Mid-Autumn Festival is just exactly one week away. I had some fun making these little piggies with some leftover snowskin premix flour. I was so happy to receive many “WOW” compliments from my friends when they saw these little cute and round piggies. These cute little piggies are relatively easy to make at home without much effort and can be easily packed off in pretty boxes for your loved ones especially on this festival.

- Handmade Snowskin Piggy
- Ingredients : you can use your own snowskin recipe to make these cute piggies.
- 58g snowskin premixed flour
- 13g kao fen (糕粉 – cooked glutinous rice flour)
- 12g icing sugar (sifted)
- 12g crisco/shortening
- 75g water
- 180g lotus paste, divide into 12 small balls, about 15g
- Combine kao fen and snowskin flour in a large bowl and set aside.
- In a pot, add water with icing sugar and crisco together. Bring to boil until crisco melted, stir with a hand whisk.
- Pour the hot liquid mixture into the flour and use a rubber spatula to stir mixture to a soft dough and leave to cool. Then knead dough to smooth . Add more kao fen if the dough is still too sticky.
- Divide dough into 3 portions and add little colouring (pink, green, yellow) to each dough, knead smooth again.
- Weigh dough to about 14-15g and wrap in the lotus paste filling and roll into ball shape again
- For further steps of making snowskin piggy, please refer to the pictorial below. (black sesame seeds for the eyes**)
- Best to chill snowskin piggy mooncakes before consuming.

Hi Ann, love love all your moonies . Cam u share what colours u used for the piggy snowskin? I dun seem to be able to get those pastels colors . Appreciate your reply asap. I plan to do snowskin today dear. Thanks so much !! Love your blog ❤️
Hi Augustina, Thank you 🙂 I always liked to use apple green, rose pink and egg yellow colours. Just use a skewer and make a small dip into the colour, then on the snowskin dough. Knead the colour well. You can add dip more colour to the dough if you like.
Please look at my snowskin handmade piggy mooncakes.

Good day Ann
I made the snowskin moonies last week but the ingredient proportions (without matcha), I used the one from Loving Creations for You by Phay Shing because she had tweaked the recipe for moonies to stay soft longer.
The moonies were very well received by all the people I shared with. They loved the moonies very much and looking forward to taste them again next year. Thank you and Phay Shing so much.
Blessings

Hi Priscilla, So happy to hear that. I’m sure your guests were very pleased with your mooncakes 🙂
Hi Ann
Sorry to ask for your advice again. You mentioned in the ingredients category “1-2 drops of yellow colouring” but later at point “(4) Divide dough into 3 portions and add little colouring (pink, green, yellow) to each dough, knead smooth again.”
May I know what which stage the yellow colouring at the ingredient category should be added to the dough?
Blessings

Hi Priscilla, Sorry it was a typo error. Please follow step (4), divide the dough into 3, if you want to make in different colour. Otherwise just add 1 colour to the dough.
Thank you, Ann, good day.

Observed most of your snowskin moonies used premixed pinpe flour, so i went just now to KCT to buy it. I was surprised the price for a package of 300gm costs S$5.00. I casually remarked to the KCT lady boss that it’s so much costly compared compared to the normal fried glutinous rice flour. However, the lady boss introduced to me her in-house KCT premixed pinpe flour which costs around S$6.00 for a pack at 600gm. She said her in-house pinpe flour is a very straight, no-frill recipe as there is no need for any added shortening, icing sugar nor fried glutinous rice flour. Just add water and the a pack can produce approx. 45 pcs moonies at 50g each.
Her in-house premixed pinpe smell very good. I told the lady boss that as I still have stock for the fried glutinous rice flour, hence, will only buy the 300gm. I think next year, I will try out her in-house brand.
Blessings.
Hi Priscilla, Yes the premix package in green is quite expensive. So much cheaper in Taiwan. I should have buy some when I was there two months ago. Next year I’ll definitely try the KCT in-house brand too.
So how is your snowskin mooncake? Hope you’re liked it 🙂
Ann, thank u for ur response. I hv not used the premixed yet. Will use it in about two or three weeks later because actually I had wanted to make snowskin moonies and give to my foreign friends working in S’pore but they are not in town now. I actually hv left over of the fried glutinous rice flour but I am inspired by your various snowskin creations that used premixed flour, so I tot I will try the premixed to finish off the left over fried flour.
I will let u know the result once I hv tried out.
Blessings

Hi Ann, thanks so much for sharing your cute pinky piggy. How long can it be keep in fridge? If I wish to keep for a week, can it be done?
I used natural pandan leave juice for its colour n fragrance. The pandan smell can’t stand longer than few hours. Any way to maintain the pandan fragrance?
Any tools to shape it smooth and round? coz I think my hand cant roll it as round without the filling comes out.
Thanks
Hi Zoe, Is best to consume this within 3-4 days as the longer you keep the snowskin in the fridge, will getting drier everyday.
The natural pandan fragrance cannot last very long unless you use pandan essence.
Sorry this is handmade from scratch.
Thank you for the cute snowskin piggy mooncakes. Most importantly, I like the pincers used for putting the sesame seeds for eyes. May I know where can I purchase? Thanks
Hi Shirley, You can get it from Daiso or handicraft shop.
These little piggy is really cute!
Too adorable! You have an amazing collection of mooncakes here, Ann. I wish I could taste all of them!
Yes, these little piggies went to school……
OMG! Ann, your little colorful piggies are so cute!! I love them! I bet little kids would go crazy over these piggies 🙂
Hi Ann, the piggy looks so adorable, admire your nimble hands!
Just to check instead of using store bought 冰皮月饼粉, can I substitute with others?
Thanks,
Eunice
