I think the Northern people of China （北方人）usually have noodle as their main meal and that's why you can see a lot of 饺子, 面条and小龙包~~most make of flour. Most of their dish are quite salty not so much 调味料 like 南方人。Of course you can find cheap food in China.
There must be alot of cheap nice food in Beijing food street ! I've never been to Beijing before… if I go confirmed I'll pack on extra 5 kilos.
