Bread and Butter Pudding
Ingredients:
2 slices White bread with butter
25g Sugar
1 Egg
150ml Milk (I added 170ml)
1/2 tsp Vanilla extract
Raisins or Cranberries
Method:
- Cut up the buttered bread in cubes or triangles and arrange in a baking dish.
- Beat egg, milk, sugar and vanilla extract in a bowl.
- Stir in raisin or cranberries any amount as you wish. (I added both)
- Pour the liquid mixture into the baking dish and allow to stand for 15 minutes so the liquid is fully absorbed.
- Bake at preheated oven at 180C for 20 minutes.

Hi, just wondering how long we can keep this bread and butter pudding for? I left mine overnight and the bread crust became kind of stale the next morning already:/
Hi Nic, For this bread pudding is not suitable for leaving overnight because there is milk in it and the bread will not crusty too.

I'm always a big fan of classic bread and butter pudding with a generous serve of custard. But, somehow like what you mentioned, I find the portion is always too much for me or just the 3 of us in the family and so I hardly make this pudding now 🙁
They like to serve bread pudding in some buffet spreads but it is never done well – usually over-sweet and mushy. Yours looks good!

I like bread pudding and this is the healthier version. I did one a while back using cream which is really fattening although it's good!

That's wonder idea to finish up the leftover bread! I love wholemeal bread & can eat it everyday morning! Sometimes after 1 2 days there were some leftover that I didnt know how to eat it! Thanks for this simple recipe!

Anncoo….trust you to have the bread arranged so nicely in this pudding :))) love it!! thanks for the tips as to place the crust up so that it is crispy on top and moist and soft on the inside ! I don't mind having this after dinner 🙂

Heard so much abt this bread pudding but 1st time of studying the recipe so seriously. It is quite a "healthy" dessert, considering that there is only a small amount of butter & sugar being used! Hmmm, tempting to try out in winter! Will bear this in mind!
Jessie, I saw some recipes uses a lot of caramel sauce over the pudding but I prefer this one not too sweet.

Ah! Ol' fashioned goodness … yum! The only problem I have with making this is that it's so very filling! I can never decide if it's a meal on it's own or dessert!
