Heart Shaped Jelly for Valentine’s Day
It’s Valentine’s Day today! Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you :)) Valentine’s Day is a special day and is the perfect time to express your love to your family, friends and loved ones in the most extraordinary way by sending gifts and sending wishes to them. I made these easy Heart Shaped Jelly (using agar agar powder) for my cousin and friends yesterday and it is so nice looking at their happy faces and seeing their big smiles…..
I am submitting this post to Aspiring Bakers #4: Love In The Air (Feb 2011) hosted by Cuisine Paradise
Heart Shaped Jelly
- Here is the recipe
Prepare one 6″ heart shaped, one 5″ heart shaped mold and 3-4 trays of small heart shaped & rose mold
- 400ml Water
- 100ml Fresh milk
- 85g Sugar
- 6g Agar agar powder
- 1 pandan leaf, wash and clean then tie pandan leaf into a small knot.
- Put all ingredients except fresh milk into a pot and keep stirring agar agar liquid to boil at medium heat. Off heat, discard leaf, add fresh milk and stir liquid for another two minutes.
- Pour some agar agar liquid into a measuring cup and add a drop of pink coloring into it, mix well then pour into the small tray. Continue to use up the agar agar liquid with any coloring you like.
- Put small trays to set in fridge for about 20 minutes and remove small hearts and roses from mold.
*I bought the heart shaped ice cube tray at Giant, Vivo City
*I used one and a half recipes for 3 Heart Shaped Jelly
Now prepare agar agar liquid for a 5 inches and 6 inches heart shaped mold.
- 550ml Water
- 95g Sugar
- 7g Agar agar powder
- 1 Pandan leaf, wash and clean then tie pandan leaf into a small knot.
- Put everything into pot and keep stirring agar agar liquid to boil at medium heat. Off heat, discard leaf and continue to stir agar agar liquid for another 2 minutes.
- Then pour some agar agar liquid into molds about half inches high, wait for a while till liquid to semi-set, using a small knife to scratch the agar agar then arrange the small hearts and roses on top.
- Cool down remaining agar agar liquid a little (not too hot) and gently pour liquid over the small hearts and roses. Leave to set in fridge for few hours or till next day.
Happy Valentine’s Day!!
吃了会爱上你啊~~
哈哈。。。真的吗?还好你是女生:)
Hi Ann,
Your are so creative. I love your heart shape agar agar and its such a sweet gift for Valentine's Day. I made them for my friends yesterday and substitute the fresh milk with coconut milk and they turned out great. Thank you so much for sharing your recipies 🙂 Corinna
Hi Corinna,
So happy to hear that you and your friends liked this dessert.
Happy Valentine's Day 🙂
@Anonymous
You're welcome Siti Hajar. Nice to know you 🙂
Thanks soo much Ann! Appreciate it. By the way, I'm Siti Hajar. 😀
@Anonymous
Hi Anonymous, the agar agar will not melt even if you put the dessert in room temperature for one whole day. Of course it tastes better after chilled. Just remember to keep stirring the liquid when cooking so you the agar agar will set properly.
Please leave your name behind in your next visit. Thanks!
Hi Ann! I wonder, will the agar-agar melt if left in room temperature?
@souperior
Thank you 🙂
Because agar agar is different from gelatine. The set agar agar won't sticks to the liquid agar agar, so you must scratch some lines on the set agar agar to help the layer stick better.
These are simply stunning, and just inspired! May I ask why you say "using a small knife to scratch the agar agar then arrange the small hearts and roses on top"? What does the scratching achieve?
Can't wait for next year so I can make these for hubby! 🙂
Crustabakes & Jeannie, Thanks for your lovely comments. Agar agar is a healthy dessert provided that sugar is not overly added. You can always play with colors in anyway 🙂
Thanks Martha :))
You are simply amazing!! Thanks so much for linking up to the Valentine's Party! 🙂

That is brilliant. Such a 'sweet' treat.
hey ann,
I love the roses in the heart. Its a brilliant idea. With some effort, even a simple agar agar dessert can turn out to be something really different. Great job!
You always have such great ideas! Hope you had a good V Day 🙂
I wonder how big is your kitchen…you have so many kitchen toys :-)) Those pinky jelly hearts look very lovely.
Thank you everyone for your lovely compliments. :))
@Sarah-Jane – SiliconeMoulds.com
Thank you 🙂
Agar agar has no flavour, aroma or calories. It is not chewy or soft like gelatin, that's why you need to add your own flavoring or pandan leaves.
Just overturn mold to release the jellies or use a sharp knife to make a small slit at the side of the jelly.
Ann, these are so pretty, cannot bear to eat lah!
Ann, you are a genius! Very impressive creation. Love the colours and shapes combination.
The colours are so attractive! I heart them….

You always make the cutest things for celebrations. These are really cute!
how pretty. These are stunning.
Never used agar agar.
How strong a jelly does this make ? Ie – chewy or the sort you would eat with a spoon ?
Do your jellies just pop out, or do the moulds need dipped in hot water to release ?
@Cheah
